Title : A New Pet

Kay stood in front of her workshop, hands on her hips, her purple hair fashioned in some bizarre horn-y 'do. I hadn't even know she had change their color again. I liked them better purple than in their previous reddish color, but I wouldn't take the risk to tell her. She would change them back just to annoy me.

"I'm thinking something fluffy and warm, like a cat, but friendlier. What do you think, Chas?"

I put the grocery back on the coffee table – the only table here except for Kay's workshop – and stepped toward her.

"What do I think about what?", I asked evenly. My sister specialized in asking me questions I can't possibly answer without more background information. Part of it came from her mind worked ; she didn't always remember people couldn't read her mind. Part of it is just so she could patronize me, because she knew it annoyed me. She was a bit of a brat.

"For the new pet, silly", she answered, speaking to me like I was some slow-brained person. I calmed down the petty anger that rose inside me. No need to give her what she wanted. It would only make it worse for me. That old adage, Don't react, that what they want, usually worked wonder on Kay.

"We're adopting a pet?", I asked instead, and began emptying the grocery bag.

I heard her sigh, and hid my smirk. She was the one getting frustrated.

"No, I'm gonna create a new one", she said like it was the most obvious answer to the current situation. And maybe it was in her mind.

As much as I wanted not to react, this one was too big to pass, and I turned toward her, mouth agap.

"What?! No, Kay, no, you won't. Don't play with that kind of things. It's dangerous."

It was her turn to smirk, but her eyes held something else, a glimpse of challenge. She knew I couldn't do anything against her if she decided to go on with her project. She was so much more powerful than I was. She was daring me to try anyway.

"Don't be silly, Chas. It's just a pet. What could happen that I wouldn't be able to make right?"

"We're not only talking about creating a life, but an entire new lifeform", I said, leaving the groceries on the coffee table and marching right toward her. "It's a game only the gods play, Kay, and even then, the results can be devastating. Don't even think about going there. Even you can't figure everything out in that kind of game."

For a moment, her face hardened, a hateful glare firing out in here eyes, but the next second, her features had crumbled, water filling her deep blue eyes, and she began to sniffed.

"But I wanted to have a pet, like everyone else", she sobbed, head bent in sorrow. "Why are there pets for allergic people, but none for me? That's not fair!"

I stepped forward again, and took her in my arms. Her powers were so strong animals didn't stand staying in her presence. She could never have a pet, and she resented that a lot. Unfortunately for us, in the great scheme of things, it wasn't our worst problem.
