Summary: Elvirah raised her head in surprise to see a ball heading straight at her.
"Catch!"
Elvirah raised her head in surprise to see a ball heading straight at her. She barely had time to lift her hands to catch the ball before it hit her in the head.
"Come on. Throw it back," Thomas asked bouncing on his toes.
"Thomas... I don't have the time. The ceremony..."
"...is in a week and there is still so much to do," Thomas mimicked as someone who had heard the excuse too often.
Elvirah sighed. "I know Tommy, it's just..." She sighed again stopping herself before she could speak another of her excuses.
"Come on, throw it back," he repeated eagerly.
Half-heartedly Elvirah did so. Thomas caught it and threw it back instantly. Elvira was forced to jump out of her chair to get the ball before it could break a vase.
"Thomas!"
The young man shrugged, pretending innocence before bouncing again.
"I really need to work," Elvirah pointed out holding the ball firmly in her hands.
"In five minutes," Thomas ordered.
Elvirah glared at him.
"Just five minutes and I'm out of your way. Promise," he added holding his hands up.
Elvirah stared at him for a few long second. "Okay. Five minutes," she agreed emphasising the time. She really had no time to spare. She sent the ball his way.

Elvirah glanced at the snack table, wondering if another coffee would be of benefit or send her over the edge. She made a step towards it when a hand came into her line of vision.
"Earth to Vee. Earth to Vee."
She blinked and focused on the foreground. Thomas was standing in front of her, now shielding the snack table.
"Are you okay?" There was genuine concern in his voice.
"That bad," she enquired, anxious that her exhaustion was showing through her make-up.
"Not really... I just know you," he added with a smile. "You should take a break. The ceremony doesn't start for another couple of hours."
"Exactly!" It had been louder than she had intended.
"Don't care," he argued. "Off to your room and take a rest."
"I'm already dressed."
"Don't care." He took her by the shoulder and span her away from the snack table. He led her to her room and sat her down the sofa. "You don't have to sleep and mess up your dress but just rest a bit. The last details can take care of themselves. I'll see to it," he added smiling gently.
She nodded slowly. Now that she was sitting, she couldn't find the strength to lift herself.
"And no more coffee," he added before closing the door.
---*---
The stage operator asked the room to quieten before quickly ushering out of the way, the lights sparkle and the music started. Elvirah jumped on stage faking an energy she didn't have.
"Welcome to the 50th Immortal award ceremony!"
The crowd that had been left in the dark clapped. Elvirah took a breath and just as she was about to continue she saw a faint light come up and illuminate Thomas face, grimacing. She smiled, trying to contain a chuckle. Her face lit up as she tried to avoid Thomas and continue with her introductory speech.
