Summary: Gaheris stared at the ceiling from the top bed of the bunk bed.

The sun was setting in the horizon and the team was enjoying the last of its ray on the terrace of Elvirah's house by the sea, playing cards and emptying bottles of wine. It had all been Thomas idea and after a lot of pleading and begging he had succeeded in rallying them all for a a quiet relaxing evening off work.

"Oh come on Bianca, play fair," Thomas pretended to whine as Bianca slapped a card onto the table.

"You never said we had to play fair." Bianca"s voice was as cold and direct as ever.

"Well, it's implied in every game. You're supposed to play fair. That's an untold rule," he explained.

"Forget it, she doesn't know the word fair," Elvirah replied.

Thomas shot her a glance but Elvirah only shrugged and smirked. Thomas sighed. "And you're not going to say anything Jay?"

"I have told you before not to call me Jay," Jeroen replied.

"Yeah, yeah. I remember something of the sort."

"Then don't call me Jay," he insisted staring at Thomas.

"Okay, okay, will do."

Jeroen inclined his head and placed his card on the table.

"Wow," Thomas exclaimed. "Great card."

"I think it means I win this round," Jeroen commented.

"Not so fast. I haven't played yet," Elvirah interjected. She slowly took a card from her pack and laid it on the table, out-ranking Jeroen by a point. She laid back in her chair and smiled. "I think I win."

Thomas laughed. "Well played." He gathered the cards and pushed them towards Elvirah. She took them gladly and place a new card on the table, starting a new round.

It was Thomas turn to play but before he made his move, he poured wine in the mostly empty glasses of everyone. He then played and relaxed into his chair, watching his friends around the table. They formed such an unlikely team, none of those three really getting along. Tension was always high in the house and Thomas wondered how they managed not to fight constantly. He had to frequently escape to recharge his patience. But this evening they were all here, sitting together and playing together. Thomas couldn't exactly say the game was friendly but at least he could see they were all enjoying themselves and relaxing into their chairs.

He was glad he had been able to provide that respite from them. He knew he wasn't of any real use to them and that the only reason he had been allowed to remain was because Elvirah had fought for him. He was just a sidekick, present for entertainment value, cook meals and undertake all those little tasks that none of them really remembered to do.

"Are you going to play?" Elvirah nudged him in the ribs.

"Huh?" He had been lost in his thoughts and hadn't kept track of what was going on. He looked at the game briefly, pretending to analyse it before dealing his card. "Played," he smiled.
