Title: a wedding in the woods [1/?]
Fandom: Teen Wolf
Prompt: 483 - affinal
Warnings: Celebrity AU—Derek’s a movie star. Some Derek/Jennifer Blake, but will be Derek/Stiles.
Rating: PG
Word Count: ~720
Summary: Loosely based off Hallmark’s “A Country Wedding.” Derek’s due to be married in only a couple of months, but he’s unexpectedly reminded of the childhood love he’d left behind years ago. He’s not sure if he’s got cold feet or if he’s just following his heart when he decides to make an impromptu road trip back to his hometown.
Disclaimer: It’s all lies and I own nothing.

It’s a bit surreal, Derek thinks as he waves and nods at the various cast and crew remaining on the set as he heads towards the parking lot. They’d officially finished filming almost a month ago, but he and a few others had been called in for reshoots on the desert sequence this week. He’s covered in sweat and sand and dust but he’s forgoing the shower in the trailer he’s been sharing with Aiden to clean up at home. Depending on traffic on the 5, he’ll be home in a couple of hours—which makes this the perfect time to give Jennifer a call.
Once he’s on the road, Derek uses the car’s connection to his phone to call her hands-free. In typical Jennifer fashion, she answers like she’s on an audition. “Hello, darling. Have you finished filming already?”
“Yeah. I’m done with my reshoots but I think Braeden still has a couple—”
“That’s good. That means you’ll be able to join me in New York, right?”
Derek loosens his grip on the steering wheel as he merges into the right lane. “I’m reading for that Kaufman script on Tuesday,” he reminds her.
“After that, then.”
“Then I’ve got a meeting with the people from Tom Ford about their fall/winter collection.”
“Oh. Right. Well, I’ll have Kali contact Peter and they can set something up. I’ve got ideas for the wedding that I want to go over with you. What do you think of a destination wedding? I was thinking Paris or somewhere in Italy. Just think on it. I’ll talk to you later. Kisses.”
Also, in typical Jennifer fashion, she steamrolls right over him and hangs up before he can argue.
Derek loves her—at least, he thinks he still does—but they hardly ever see each other face-to-face and when they do, it’s only for a few days before one of them is off to film a movie or do a photoshoot. Peter seems to think Jennifer is the woman of Derek’s dreams, but the longer they’re together, the more Derek doubts it. He’s starting to feel taken advantage of, between Peter and Jennifer, but Peter’s been his self-professed number-one supporter since he started in the business almost two decades ago. He’s been Derek’s manager nearly as long. And it’s a family business now with Cora handling his PR. He can’t imagine ever turning his back on his family for any reason, even if Peter’s been trying to talk him out of this Kaufman movie in order to take a supporting role in some YA book trilogy adaptation that’s supposed to be the next Hunger Games/Divergent/whatever. But Derek wants to take a step back from big-budget action movies and try his hand at an independent drama. Peter only agreed to the Kaufman reading if Derek agreed to reprising his role as Jake Flynn if a third film is developed in the Desert Wolf franchise; the reshoot he just finished was for the second film.
And Jennifer—Derek’s been with her since they filmed Lunar Eclipse together five years ago. Derek’s career had finally been on the rise after plateauing for a long time and Jennifer’s had been on the decline. Cora’s never been a fan of Jennifer and she’s pretty vocal about her dislike of Derek’s fiancée. She’s told Derek more than once that Jennifer is basically riding his coattails. When they’re together, they get along great—even if they almost always do what Jennifer wants to do—but they haven’t seen each other in two months. And that was just a brief three days while Derek was filming the Desert Wolf sequel. He hopes things change once they’re married, but he doubts they will. Sometimes, he hopes she just gets cold feet and backs out. He knows it’s terrible for him to think that, but he can’t imagine living like this indefinitely. And he can kind of see where Cora’s coming from, even if he hates having to admit it.
Just a two minute conversation with Jennifer has Derek tense again. As much as he needs a shower, he’s going to take the long way home and wind down on the drive.
