Derek had a choice to make. His team was nearly ready to head out, but Cora being there was an unexpected complication. He helped Argent escort his sister to a holding cell and watched her rage against the werewolf-grade cuffs that kept her chained to the wall. As he stood there, the camp medic, Deaton, approached and stopped beside him. “I believe she’s been poisoned. Likely some altered strain of wolfsbane administered by her captors. Argent said the way they found her was suspect, the way she was pinned seemed deliberate. I’m doubtful that whatever it is is permanent; it just needs to run its course.”

“How do you know? That she’s not going to be like this forever?” Derek asked, not looking away from Cora.

“Because her aggression is already waning. She’s struggling, but not fighting. Argent said it took nearly all his men to subdue her, yet only you and he managed to bring her here. I’ll keep an eye on her while you’re gone. She’ll almost be back to her old self by the time you return.”

“You’re sure?”

“Fairly certain. The sheriff and Argent are waiting for you in the command center when you’re ready.”

Derek nodded. “Thanks, Deaton.”

Deaton merely nodded back before turning around to leave.

Cora growled from inside the cell, eyes flashing gold. Derek’s reaction was automatic, flashing his own red alpha eyes at her, but it was obviously a mistake as Cora immediately went ballistic.

“It might be best for you to go now,” Graeme said from the security desk. “She’s in good hands with Deaton.”

“I know.” Derek glanced at Cora one more time before heading down the hall of empty cells to where Parrish was waiting for him at the door. It was a relief to get outside—he took a deep breath to get the scent of Cora’s rage, confusion, and blood out of his nose.

“She’s going to be okay,” Parrish saed.

“Thanks.”

“It’s Stiles’ team we have to worry about.”

“We?”

“I volunteered. Stilinski’s on board. I’ve got medic training—if anybody’s injured—”

“It’s fine. You don’t have to explain. Extra eyes and extra hands are welcome on this mission.”

Parrish nodded. “Good. Besides, it’s not like you really have a choice,” he said, attempting levity. He followed Derek into the command center and down the hall to the main room.

Stilinski and Argent were standing over the map again. “My team and I followed Stiles’ route, but beyond that one location, we couldn’t find trace of him or his team. There are a few places along the main road they were following that they might be hiding,” Argent said as Derek approached the table. “If it’s alright with you, I’d like to come along.”

Derek glanced up at Stilinski and sighed. “That’s fine. How soon can we move out?”

“As soon as you’re ready,” the sheriff said. “Reyes and Boyd were sent to stock up extra rations and Lahey said he’d fetch your bag.”

Derek nodded. “Then I guess once the both of you are ready…” He looked between Parrish and Argent.

“I’m packed and ready to go,” Parrish said.

“I never unpacked,” Argent offered with a shrug.

“If we’re all ready…” Derek held out his hand to Stilinski, who shook it firmly. “I’ll do everything in my power to find him and bring him back. His whole team.”

“I know,” Stilinski said. “You’re a good man, Derek.”

With a final nod, Derek turned and headed for the door. As soon as he rounded up his team, they’d head out and he’d be that much closer to finding Stiles.
