The Boy Next Door: Celebrations
Spike smiled as he looked over the crowded living room. He was immensely proud of himself for planning the surprise birthday party for Xander. He'd intended to do something special for his boy all along but this certainly wasn't the type of party he would have planned.
He'd wanted a more – intimate – celebration, just him and Xander and maybe some naughty touching, but that was before he'd spoken with the boy's friends. He'd cornered Willow, Buffy and Jesse in the hall when he knew Xander would be changing after gym to ask them what they thought Xander would like for his party.
He'd been devastated to learn that Xander had never really had a birthday party. Sure, Willow and Jesse had often given him a Twinkie with a candle in it and presented him with whatever they could buy with their tiny allowances, but he'd never had a party. Spike seethed, feeling for the small boy who never knew the joy of having his friends gathered for cake and silly party games. Xander's mum had never shown up at school with a tray of cookies or fairy cakes for his classmates. It was what every child wanted, needed, to make their special day complete, and Xander had gone without.
But not this time.
Spike had considered inviting the whole of Xander's classmates, but upon Willow's suggestion, had settled on a small collection of the boy's closest friends. The couches and chairs in the spacious living room were crowded with a rather oddball collection of teenagers: Buffy and her newest boyfriend Scott were cuddled on one end of the couch while Willow and the small, quiet redheaded boy Oz cuddled sweetly in the other. Jesse sat in one of the dining room chairs as he tried his hardest to capture the attention of the cheerleader sitting across from him in the cushioned wing-backed chair he'd let her have in a moment of chivalry. Spike wasn't sure what possessed him to ask Cordelia to come, but she seemed content to pretend to hate them all while enjoying their company at the same time.
They had already devoured the six pizzas Spike had ordered and were well on their way to finishing off the cake. The blond boy had been forced to jump into the fray of hungry teenagers to rescue two pieces of cake for his Da and Giles to have when they returned later that evening. Not that he could blame his guests. He had gone to the best bakery in town and ordered their most expensive cake aptly called Death by Chocolate. It had three layers of chocolate cake, one dark chocolate, one milk chocolate and one white chocolate, with chocolate mousse filling and a chocolate ganache icing on top. The girls – and Xander – were in heaven.
Now they were gathered around the television as Xander set up the entertainment for the evening. Jesse's present had been a DVD game about movie and pop culture trivia the boys had been talking about for weeks. They had quickly paired off and were getting ready to play, so Spike sauntered behind the couch and slid his hands onto Xander's shoulders.
"Don't worry, Pet," he whispered in Xander's ears, "We'll trounce them. You'll see."
And Spike was right. Between Xander's knowledge of all things dealing with SciFi and television and Spike's love of music and random trivia helped them beat everyone else by a mile. Xander was smiling so wide that Spike was sure the boy's cheeks had to hurt.
Finally, the party wound down as all the chips and dip and cake were eaten and Spike ushered the extra teenagers out of his house after they had all hugged and kissed his boy goodnight.
Happy to have Xander all to himself, Spike took the younger boy by the hand and led him to the couch. Xander flopped down on the soft cushions, sighing loudly.
"That was awesome, Spike," he said, beaming. "That was, without a doubt, the best birthday ever."
"It's not over yet," Spike nearly purred. "Want your prezzies?"
"Presents?" the sable haired boy gasped in surprise. "After the party, I still get presents?"
Spike simply chuckled as he turned to retrieve the wrapped packages from their hiding place. Handing them over, Spike settled as close as possible to his boy before stealing a chaste kiss.
"Go ahead," he prompted, "Open them up. A couple of those are from Ethan and Giles but the rest are from me."
Sable, curly hair flew as Xander nodded wildly before tearing into his presents. He seemed overwhelmed by haul, that included an iPod Nano, already filled with a rather eclectic collection of music, several comics, mostly collectibles and a pair of leather trousers that Xander had complained that he had no idea where he would wear something so extravagant.
The largest package was a leather duster, one that looked nearly identical to the one Spike treasured. Spike had laughed when Xander gaped at the coat. "Not to worry, Love," he whispered, "We'll break it in for you so it doesn't look so poncey, promise."
Xander had laughed at that, smiling at Spike with adoration on his strong features. It warmed the older boy's heart, seeing the boy like this. He hadn't realized how much he had missed it.
"Now for the last prezzie," Spike smiled, pulling out a small wrapped box. "I expect we'll both have a smile over this one."
Xander tore open the paper and wrenched open the box. Spike frowned when the look of excitement slid from the younger boy's face.
"What's this?" Xander asked.
"What does it say?" Spike replied.
"Apple scented and flavored lubricant specially designed for a truly pleasurable sexual experience."
Spike smiled – waiting – for Xander's response. He was thoroughly surprised when the younger boy began to shout.
"You bought me lube for my birthday?! Talk about insensitive, Spike. Jesus Christ, what is wrong with you? Is this the hint that you're tired of not getting any?!"
Spike took a deep breath before trying to explain. "Xander, you don't understand..."
"No!? I think I understand just fine! Why didn't you just give me a card that said, 'Hey Xander, bend over so I can shag you silly!'"?
"Xander," Spike tried again, "The lube is for me."
"Yeah, I get that!" the younger continued to fume.
"No, you don't," the blond boy tried a little harder. "It's for you to use on me."
"Sure," Xander whined sarcastically, "I have to know how much lube to put on your dick so you don't hurt me, right? Heaven forbid Spike's dick might get chafed!"
Unable to take any more, the older boy jumped from the couch and grabbed Xander's face in his hands, forcing the younger boy to stare into his angry, azure eyes.
"Xander, I bought the lube for you so you could fuck me up the arse! Is that clear enough for you?"
Hazel eyes stared, unfocused at him for several long moments before Xander finally whispered, "You want me to do you?"
Spike smiled, happy that he finally got his message through the boy's thick skull. "Yes."
"Why?"
"Because I want this to be an equal relationship," the older boy explained before smirking wickedly. "So, Xander? Do you want me?"
Xander's breath caught in his throat and Spike watched the path of Xander's warm tongue as he licked his dry lips. The boy was obviously aroused and Spike knew he'd made the right decision.
Taking Xander's hand, Spike purred, "Let's take this celebration upstairs, shall we?"
