Pairings/Characters: Faith/Buffy, a bit of Faith/Dean, Angel

A/N: This is a prequel to "Storms (and psychos) just won't quit." But you don't have to read that to get this.

"I once told you that you didn't have to go out in that darkness.  Remember?  That it was your choice.  Well, you chose. You thought that you could just touch it. That you'd be okay. 5x5, right, Faith?  But it swallowed you whole. So tell me - how did you like it?"

It was 1,937 days from the last time Faith had killed a human being to the girl on the ground.

Yeah, when it came to screw ups, Faith didn’t just rock the boat. She lunged at it until it capsized. She didn’t feel that rush of fear that accompanied her first kill or the thrill of victory that came with her second. This time Faith just felt…sated.
                                                                                ----------------------------

It’s been building for months. Fights that would push her just a tad further each time. She never lost it though, determined not to end up where she was before, all lost and aching for power. But then she’d dream. Faith knew just how hard to break bones, just how hard to shatter them. In her dreams she practiced on anyone and everyone, from the guy who sold her cigarettes to Buffy.  She dreamt about slamming the blunt end of a stake right against Blondie’s throat.

When she woke, she called Angel. Confessed to a vampire in gory details what she wanted to do to the love of his unlife and waited for her absolution.

“You didn’t do anything. You’re strong Faith….take it a minute at a time.”

Faith hung up the phone (not that she ever said goodbye before anyway) and crawled back into bed, waking Buffy up with an orgasm she knew wouldn’t be forgotten anytime soon.
                                                                                 -----------------------------

It’s been burning for days. Slaying and sex had been enough before but the town they were in was unusually quiet. And Buffy liked it like that. And for some reason Faith stayed. Found a bar. Did her thing.

She slipped the twenty that she had won at the pool table into her shirt, not even bothering to hide a smirk when she noticed that he was following the movements. Then again, it wasn’t like he was really trying to hide it.

How they went from that to making out behind the bar was beyond her but she really didn’t care. It wasn’t like he was the one she was going home with that night or anything.

Though Dean did pull out a few tricks that made her almost change her mind.

It didn’t matter though. Half way between ripping his jeans open and just ripping hers, they were attacked. By a vampire.

Faith didn’t stake him in a hurry. She hauled back and landed a fist in its face and just didn’t stop. When she got bored, she finally put him out of his misery.

She turned to find Dean standing there, a look of disgust at the thing she had killed on his face. Finally he turned to here. “Are you human?”

Faith wanted to laugh. Out of all the things that could have been asked, her humanity didn’t even seem to register on the list. But now that she thought about it, it seemed to be the only one that mattered.

“Human enough.” She finally settled on. “I’m one of the good guys.”

She walked away before he spoke again, pulling up her zipper as she went. She had to get away from there now.

That night she called Angel again. Told him how for a moment, she felt a pulse beneath her fist. She told him how she hadn’t cared.
                                                                             -----------------------------------

It had been going on for hours. Tension bubbling under her skin to the point that she wanted to claw it out.

“Faith, what’s going on with you?” She sat across from Buffy, looking at her. She didn’t answer, just swung the axe and smiled when it hit the target.

“What do you want me to say B?” Faith asked as she walked to the wall to pull the axe out.

“I want to know what you told Angel that had him coming out here to see you,” Buffy said. Even without turning around, Faith knew that Buffy had her arms crossed like it was the ultimate “Answers. Now.” position and like it was actually going to get some answers. Faith shook her head. Was Buffy always this bossy?

“Faith?”

“Nothing,” Faith finally answered. “He’s just overreacting.” Because he was. Because he had to be. She wasn’t like that anymore.

The proof was in how she walked out of the door before she did something she might actually regret.

The proof was in the girl who had done something to annoy Faith that she couldn’t remember but found herself gasping for air under Faith’s palm.

The proof was how Faith watched the light die from her eyes.

“That wasn’t so hard was it?”

Faith whipped around to find Angel. She went to explain when everything finally clicked into place. So instead she turned around.

“Easier than I thought.”

Ouch, that packed as big a wallop as one of Faith's punches.

I liked the way you really got under her skin here - she's phoning Angel for confession and absolution, and then going out and letting herself go. Scary and very, very plausible.

Good stuff, hon. I really enjoyed that and then last couple of lines really hit me in the gut. Like I said - Ouch!

Took me awhile but I found it on here too! *grins* Yes!

And let me just say, I'm so glad you posted this and that you added to this 'verse. (But then, we've already gone over my love for this 'verse and the way you use it to bribe me for stuff. Evil. LOL.)

Yay for the killing and the glimpses of Buffy/Faith and Faith/Dean and then enter Angelus. *happy sigh* This 'verse is so much fun.
