Character: Giles
Summary: Rupert Giles final report in his watcher’s journal.
Here it is, my final report. Should there be more, it shall not be by my hands, but those who have younger bones and no wrinkles covering their tired eyes.
Shall I ever write my words on paper again, it will not be in a watcher’s journal.
I may write a novel of my life...or make that, the lives of the heroes I have had the fortune to stand next to.
Soon, in the not to distant future, a new breed of watchers will arise, for I am a watcher bred and trained from a council that no longer exists.
In the seven years I’ve been Buffy Anne Summer’s watcher, I’ve watched a young girl become a strong leader. I’ve seen her fall, but I’ve also had the pleasure of watching this magnificent warrior get back up.
Many have stood with her, as you are aware from reading through the rest of my journal.
I have seen each grow, I’ve held them as they cried, but I’ve also walked away, shamefully, when they needed me the most.
The shocking thing is these heroes also welcomed me back with open arms.
Their forgiveness knows no bounds, and their always faithful friendship given without hesitation.
As for my report on the war….
The First has been defeated, through the strength of young people that will never be remembered as the great heroes they are.
The main population will never know their names, but for those who know the truth---we will never be able to say thank you enough.
Many died, as heroes often do, but their memory will stay in our hearts forever.
The world has now changed…it is a new dawn, where Slayer’s will rule and demons will run in fear.
Do I see this change as a great one?
Only time will tell, but it was a necessary step to stop the evil we fought.
Shall I ever get quoted for any of my words, it shall be this one, I hope I am remembered for…
“She was a daughter, a friend, an angel, and my savoir…she will be all this foremost, before I ever call her a slayer.”
