I might be asking a bit of a dumb question, but do I just jump right in and post something? Do I need to introduce myself first, or include an intro in my first post, or doesn't it matter?

I'm really keen not to break any rules, so I thought I'd check first :D

Hey, and welcome! *waves* First of all, no question is a dumb question here. ^_^ We're glad to have you!

You don't need to make an intro post; if you wanted to put an intro in your first post, you're more than welcome to do that! And yes, go ahead and jump right on in. They're all due this Saturday, the 12th, by Midnight. Even there, however, you can catch a break: if it's past midnight by your clock, but not in, say, Hawaii, then change your time zone to somewhere later so it'll fit under the clock. (We find it less panicky, though, if you post earlier in the week, but we know how RL can get. Trust me. *nodnod*)
