Title: Paper Ties
Fandom: Buffy
Prompt: Father’s Day
Rating: T
Summary: Two different Father’s days in Xander’s life.

Xander held out the homemade present, “I made it today at school,” he said with a huge smile.

Hank rolled his head so he was no longer facing the TV and glared at his boy.

The paper tie made with construction paper lay proudly in his little boy’s hands.

He took a sip of his beer before he shook his head at his boy, “is that all I’m worth; after all the shit I’ve had to put up with since you were born.”

He looked away with a snort, ignoring how his little boy ran out of the room shaking with sobs.

--------------------

Jesse walked into the kitchen where Xander was making dinner.

“Daddy,” Jesse called out with an excited bounce in his step.

Xander glanced down at his little boy, “Yeah, Jesse?”

Jesse revealed a paper tie made out of construction paper behind his back, “I made it for you.” He said with a huge grin that looked exactly like his Dad’s.

Xander slowly kneeled down and looked into his little boy’s hazel eyes.

“It’s awesome, Buddy!”

He tucked it into shirt and modeled it for his little boy, “how does it look, Jesse?”

Jesse bounced up and down, “its perfect, Daddy!”

-----------------------------

Buffy sat down on the stool by the kitchen island and raised a brow at the paper tie sticking out of her husband’s shirt.

“Cute,” she said with a smile.

“Jesse made me for me,” Xander said with pride as he handed her a re-heated dinner plate.

Buffy’s eyes went huge with guilt, “Shit, I forgot about Father’s day!”

Xander waved away her words, “Buffy, love, its fine…besides, this,” he said pointing to his tie, “shows me how much I mean to my boy, more than anything else could.”

Buffy smiled around a piece of chicken and then swallowed it down.

“You’re a million times the man Hank was.”

Xander leaned over the island and kissed his wife; pushing back the tears his old man didn’t deserve.

Sweet.
Nice to see Xander get a normal life, with a child he can love and who loves him.
