This is again a snippet from my NaNoWriMo story. Once again I've jumped ahead a little in the story. I've posted seven parts of the story into my fic journal but this snippet is around part 10, I think. For those who read the previous story this happens a bit after that
Title: Adjusting
Pairing: Angel/Spike, OMC/Spike
Rating: Overall NC-17
Prompt: #19 - Insurance
Previous parts: here
Warnings: some nasty stuff here, slavery, non-con, slash
Author's notes: This story is unbetaed. Will probably replace the chapter with betaed at some point. I apologize already in advance for all the glaring mistakes
Disclaimer: I don't own these characters. They belong to Joss Whedon, Mutant Enemy and WB. Just borowing the boys because Joss said I could
When Angel got into the office he found both Wesley and Cordelia already there. He greeted them and then sat down on his chair to think for a while. He knew he needed to take care of talking about the situation with Spike as soon as possible but he really was quite scared of what his friends would say. He knew Cordelia had met Spike before and was probably very eager to stake him. Wesley, however, would probably be very interested in researching Spike but Angel didn't want that either. He didn't want his Childe to be prodded and poked just so that Wesley could satisfy his curiosity. Finally he knew he couldn't delay the conversation any longer so he asked both Cordelia and Wesley into his office.
"What is it, Angel?" Wesley was the first one to talk. "Is something wrong?"
"A few days ago I received news from Buffy that they had taken the Initiative down. I checked from some of my other contacts and they confirmed it."
"That's wonderful news, Angel."
"Yes, it is. I also paid a visit to Dymion last night and took care of him. I made a pact with his relatives that helped me kill him. That is a big relief."
"That's also great but I can't help the feeling I have that something is still wrong. You seem troubled in some way. If you don't mind me saying you've seemed preoccupied by something for some time now."
"You are absolutely right." Angel paused for a while to think about his next words. "Wesley, I don't know if you are aware but my Childe Spike was in LA last autumn after causing some trouble in Sunnydale before that. It seemed he went back to Sunnydale after I prevented his plans here."
"I see. Unfortunately I can't see what this has to do with anything."
"It seems he was captured by the Initiative while in town. Something was done to him and he was reduced into a mindless pet. Dymion happened to buy him from one the auctions the Initiative held and used him as his personal pet. Spike was treated really bad and barely fed at all."
"This is all very interesting but I still don't see what this has to do with anything?"
"I couldn't leave him at Dymion's lair last night when I went there to kill him so I brought him back here with me. He is in my apartment right now."
"What?" Now it was Cordelia's turn to join the conversation. "Do you mean to tell us that you have a blood thirsty soulless demon in your apartment? What were you thinking? Or were you thinking at all?"
Angel listened Cordelia's shouting and list of questions calmly. He had known that Cordelia would probably be the one who react more strongly to news about Spike. He had guessed his friends wouldn't take the news lightly.
"Yes, Spike is in my apartment but you are not in danger."
"How can you say that? How do you know you will be able to control him? He has tricked you before."
"I already told you that the Initiative did something to him and he's been reduced into a mindless pet. He won't do anything without being told to and not always even then. You are in no danger."
"What insurance or proof can you provide us about that? How can you be sure?"
"As I just said he doesn't do anything without an order. If I tell him to stay in the apartment he will do exactly that. Also I've been told that he has some kind of chip inside his head that prevents him from hurting humans."
"And you just believe that?"
"Of course I will make sure that he really can't hurt anyone. I would never put you into that kind of danger but for now I know I can control him. If you stay out of my apartment you have nothing to worry about."
"You have to be insane to think that I'm going to work here with a peaceful mind with a soulless vampire downstairs. Tell me that he is at least tightly chained."
"No, he is roaming free but he won't leave the apartment. I told him to stay in there and I'm sure he will obey. I wouldn't even be surprised if I found him on the exactly same spot where I left him. He has no memory of his life from before and he is not dangerous. You just have to take my word for it."
Some more arguments followed. Angel did his best to remain calm all through it and explain to his friends that everything was alright. Finally they did reach some kind of agreement. Angel promised to make sure Spike wouldn't leave the apartment and find out more about the chip and how it worked. Wesley and Cordelia promised to stay out of the apartment although Wesley did express his interest in seeing Spike and maybe researching him at least a little. Angel had known to expect it. He promised that he would give it some thought and maybe allow Wesley to come into the apartment in a few days after he had Spike settled. Cordelia wasn't pleased at all and Angel knew it would take some time before she would forgive him and it would probably require a few dresses or pairs of shoes. He still worked for a while before telling his friends that he needed to check on Spike and made his way downstairs.

Date: 2006-11-26 11:25 am (UTC)I liked Wesley. His curiosity often overrode his common sense. Cordelia's reaction was also right.
Nice development.
