Temuji glared at the sunlight flooding his room and tossed an arm over his eyes. The light persisted, and he moaned and sat up finally, running his hands through his hair and over his eyes. His mouth tasted foul and his eyes were still heavy, and he really didn’t want to get out of the bed. It was warm and the softest bed he’d occupied in ages.
Grumbling, he tossed his legs over the side of the bed and stretched his arms over his head, biting back a yawn.
What was there to do today?
He had to speak more with Davin, and even with the boy. What was his name? Irritated, Temuji fetched his clothes, quickly washing and dressing. He was in the process of tugging at the lace at his wrists out from under his coat sleeves when a polite knock sounded at his door.
Smoothing his hair down, he opened the door to a footman.
“Sir, Lord Davin is awake. He would like to speak with you before you break your fast.”
Temuji nodded and stepped out of his rooms, smirking at this little display of magic Davin still insisted on. He followed the footman through the house and into the master’s chambers where a solicitor was seated at the bedside, papers in hand.
Upon his entrance, the thin solicitor stood and bowed quickly.
“Milord Coatl, I presume?”
“And you are?” Temuji asked with an arched red brow.
He bowed again. “Messer Blair, at your service, milord.” He stepped away from the chair and motioned Temuji into it. Assuming the seat, Temuji turned his attention to Davin.
“How are you this morning?”
Davin smiled. “Afternoon, you mean?”
Temuji gave him a startled look. “No, of course not. The sun revolves around me, didn’t you know?”
The other two chuckled and Davin held out a hand and Blair handed over a leaf of paper. “This is to be my will.” A second paper followed. “And this is to give you legal rights over the boy.”
“Until he’s reached his majority.”
Davin’s gaze grew worried and his breathing became labored. Quickly, Temuji caught his hand. “Don’t worry so, old man. I’ll protect him. Forever if need be.”
Davin settled and sighed. “You must teach him to protect himself. If only he hadn’t been hit with Dago’s magic,” he mourned. Temuji patted his hand before leaning back in the chair, eyeing the formal documents with distaste.
“Is there anything important I need to know in here?”
Davin shot him a glare that was ineffective and repeated his sigh. “The house goes to my sister, of course. I’ve set up an account for when he reaches his majority, so he’s not poverty stricken.” His lips twisted in a frown. “Most of my wealth came with the title, so I can’t give that to him, or you, but I did make a pretty penny on my own. All of it goes to him.”
Davin suddenly started coughing violently. Worried, Temuji stood over him and pressed him down onto the mattress before reaching for the glass of water on the bedside table. Davin drank deeply and pushed Temuji away.
“Read carefully.”
Rolling his eyes, Temuji held up the paper and read quickly. His name was Viljo. A moment’s thought brought his full name to him, Viljo Qimat, Diamond Blood Heir. The papers stated that Temuji was to become his legal guardian, moneys left to the boy, held in proxy by none other than Messer Blair. Quirking one brow, Temuji finished the papers and gave them back to Blair.
“All right, it’s all legal.”
Davin nodded. “Sign it.”
Temuji glared. “Do you think I won’t do this, if not for this . . . This?”
Davin shook his head, holding his fisted hand to his mouth to cover his coughing. “It’s not for you. It’s for him.” His coughing settled and he sighed a deep breath before continuing. “There are things he is to have. I’ve put them in safekeeping with Blair. You will see to it he receives these when he’s controlled his magic?”
“Of course.”
“Then tell him who he is.”
Temuji was nodding before he realized what Davin was saying. He froze, eyes wide on Davin’s face. “He doesn’t know?”
Davin shook his head. “His family was killed when he was a babe still. After that, Dago had him. He doesn’t know. I felt it was better not to tell him until he could control his magic.”
“So he wouldn’t go in search of his family.”
“They’ll use him, never healing him.”
“I suppose so.”
Temuji accepted a pen from Blair and signed his name on the papers with a flourish. His own copy was dully folded and stuffed in his jacket’s interior pocket and Davin shooed him away so he could sleep.
Snarling something about cranky old men, Temuji went in search of breakfast and found the same room from the night before, now bathed in light. His mouth watered at the delectable scents wafting from the sideboard and headed for the long table, snagging a white porcelain plate.
He filled the plate and was sitting before he realized that he wasn’t alone in the room.
The boy, Viljo, Temuji amended, was sitting at the table, his chin resting on the highly polished wood. His eyes were on Temuji, eerily watching his every move.
Temuji paused a moment, nonplused, before he gathered his wits and snapped his napkin open with a flick of his wrist.
“Good day, Viljo.”
Viljo blinked and sat up. “Good day.”
Lifting his fork, Temuji began eating. One thing he didn’t like, was talking while eating.
He blamed it on living alone for so long.

For some strange reason, I kinda pity Temuji. Don't know why but the last sentence just makes me go, he needs a hug, but he'll probably hate that so nevermind. Anyways, you chose a name, congrats! ^^ I have an urge to go to behindthename and find the meaning to it if there's one, but is there a spoiler in there? And... now waiting for next chapter, because seriously, want more.

Then, I shall hug him here before running away and hiding. Or maybe (if I could of course), just leave him a cheer up card and flowers...
Isn't it awesome??!! The community I got this one from has whole slews of icons like the one I'm currently using and yeah... Cuteness overload! ^^
