Buffy held the drink in her hand using it more as a decoration and less as a tool to get completed wasted and spend quality time with the porcelain god. It would be too easy to drink, too easy to let herself slip just a little so that whatever was clawing her up inside would be numbed.
At the moment she didn’t want to numb her pain. She wanted to use it. She had discovered that this entire end of the world business had a cause. That there was a thing she could fight responsible for all the deaths and agony in the world. Bobby had been helpful in that regard, he knew what had done this and he had told her of how she could bring the thing down.
He had also told her that she couldn’t do this alone. That she had to go to the ones that had ripped open the gates of Hell for help. The infamous Winchester brothers, who were as stupid as they were pretty. Their first meeting hadn’t gone that well. The younger one Sam had been courteous, the older though, Dean, well he had been a bit of a dick.
Buffy set down her drink and Dean snorted bringing up his beer to hide the malicious laughter that was escaping his lips. “Lightweight.” he muttered trying to disguise it as a cough and the table shook slightly the bleached wood stained and cracking. Sam sent a kick in his brother’s direction turning to smile at Buffy with an apology in his eyes.
“With those resources we would be able to help more people,” Sam continued saying his attention back on Buffy “we don’t need the protection though, the offer is appreciated but we can’t put anybody else in danger.” Buffy had been working on recruiting techniques. She had told them about the money and supplies the Council would be willing to offer them, along with some Slayer protection given that they had made their fair share of enemies.
“You have to have at least one Slayer with you.” Buffy told him firmly “It’s sort of a company policy; it is protection all around, for you guys and for the girl.”
“Sure.” Dean smirked across the table at her taking a long pull of his beer before turning to Sam “Cause some super powered hormone bomb is just what we need, there can be two of you Sammy.”
Sam rolled his eyes a smile playing at his lips and Buffy couldn’t help the urge. It was funny, and painfully true. She flipped her blond hair over her shoulder throat going a little dry as she put on a bright smile “But that’s where you guys get the best deal.”
Dean’s eyebrows furrowed and his expression grew serious as he looked at her “You!” he shook his head “You honestly want to be around us, me, for longer than you have to?” They didn’t exactly get along and she hadn’t been quiet about who she was, infamous Slayer that she was, so the idea of her willing to taking up with them for a few months was ridiculous enough to work.
“Not so much you,” Buffy grimaced dramatically and turned back to Sam “But there are some sacrifices that I am willing to make.” She shrugged “For the sake of the world.” She studied the still cold glass in her hand for a moment before she tossed back the contents feeling it burn its way down her throat. She set the now empty glass down on the table and her face grew serious “Now tell me about Lilith.”
