Summary: There's a secret that fate wanted kept secret, and for many years, it was. Until it fell into the right hands of a Slayer who figured it out. As she searches for the missing piece to prove her point, there's a lot of people out there who want her dead because of it. Because this secret is going to change everything.

Suddenly the flames stopped burning her, and the panic and fear that had been shared was hers alone. She froze, not even caring as hands pulled her away from the fire, trying desperately to reach out with her mind. 'Spike? Angel? Answer me! Where are you?'
The loss was felt in the next instant as no one answered. She could feel only her own life, her own self within her, and it felt as if she couldn't breathe. She felt cold, bleeding from the inside, and they were gone-
“I do hope you had insurance.”
Buffy turned towards the voice, tears streaming down her face, keeping her vision blurry. A tall man stood, dark hair and pressed suit so out of place in the cacophony of emptiness and silence within her. He grinned, looking sickly and wrong, and the last thing she felt was something hard against the back of her skull.
