A/N: This is an excerpt from chapter 10 of my NaNoWriMo novel entitled, “Perception/Distraction/Self/Other (or, Aliens Made Me Gay)”. Previous chapters are unavailable. This is the chapter in which the title begins to make sense. Colby has recently begun noticing certain feelings he has for his best friend, and blames these feelings on the abduction he believes he endured at the hands of aliens two nights ago. He also believes a phantom is following him, intent on destroying him, and that the red dust sold to him by a “wizard” can protect him from the things that are stalking him. Sadly, it can’t protect him from what’s left of his family.

This snippet is available only on my journal and only to friends. If you would like to read it, just friend me. I’ll give you access; no problem. Also, this was written in a huge rush and is almost completely unedited. Please forgive my clunky, awkward prose.

Jack’s back things are as back to normal as Torchwood can get. Jack is run down and tired from the year that never was and when Owen does something else to drive him crazy Jack decides he needs a break and Owen should be the one to ensure it happens. Jack expected to be amused by how Owen dealt with it he didn’t expect to be bored.

Owen had coped surprisingly well with Jack’s disappearance and assuming the mantle of leadership. When Jack orders him to organise a week’s break making him responsible for everything he decides it is time to prove to Jack that he is capable. He just didn’t expect Jack to decide that seducing him was the best way to relax.

Yeah, like that's never freaky. And she told him; No, way. I don't know you. And he went on about how she had fed on one of his employees, a vampire one at that and so either she could take his offer of help or be thrown to the hunters. She had no idea what he was talking about hunters and stuff, but if help meant a nice roof over her head why the hell not.
