Summary: Anna had always been able to recognise Agathe by her scent..

It was the middle of the night. The room was dark and silent. Only the noises from the wild night life taking place outside could be heard. Anna and Agathe were lying peacefully, sound asleep in their bed. It had been six months since they had found each other once more, six month since life hd started to have a sense again.

Agathe shifted silently away from Anna's body. Anna unconsciously moaned in protest and without really wanting to, woke up. She jerked up in a start, her eyes looking widely about her, not quite sure of where she was. Her breathing was wild and it took her a full minute to calm down and realise she was in her new home, in France, with Agathe. She realised it only when the sweet fruity fragrance of Agathe reached her nose.

It was strange, she thought as she got out of bed, how Agathe's smell had always been the same through all of their lives. She walked to the window and opened the curtains. The moon and the stars were illuminating the outside world with a pale almost unreal and magical glow. Anna smiled as her eyes glanced over the garden spreading around the house. There were flowers in bloom and small trees promising to grow, and in the farthest corner, almost out of sight, the shed Agathe had taught her to build. It had all become so familiar.

Anna turned her head to check Agathe was there. She could still smell her fruity perfume but it had never really been a sign of reassurance. Agathe didn't wear any perfume. She knew it well. There was no bottle of perfume in the bathroom, nor anywhere else in the house. There had never been any bottle of perfume in any of the houses the had inhabited. Agathe had always wore her particular smell as a trademark of herself, almost like a signature. Anna could remember lives when the slightest resemblance of Agathe's smell in the hair had had her looking widely around her, trying to spot red fiery hair. It had almost drover her crazy in more than one lifetime. But it didn't matter any longer, not now hat they were reunited in this life. What was before could be ignore, healed by the presence of her other half, not forgotten but not omnipresent. It was the past and it couldn't taint the present they had. They had learned the hard way to make the most of their lives together when they found each other. They both knew it would eventually become the fuel of future lonely lives.

Anna closed the curtains. The room became pitch black once more. She walked blindly to the bed and slid back under the cover. She pressed her body carefully to Agathe's as not to wake her up and inhale deeply the sweet exotic fruity scent of her other perfect half before closing her eyes. She fell back asleep almost instantly, a smile on her lips.
