*The quote in the summary is from Tom Robbins' novel Jitterbug Perfume. I haven't read it, but since a good deal of the novel is about the sense of smell and perfumes, it seemed fitting.
The original title was The Scent of Lavender, but I didn't like that, so I changed it before I posted to my journal. The same story, with a few changes. The biggest difference is the title.

Giles was always warning them against things like this. Since the whole debacle with the magic Letterman jacket, they'd had to listen to lecture upon lecture about the dangers of magical artifacts. Xander had felt the sting of his mess up with the love spell being used again as an example of what could go wrong when you used magic without knowing what you were doing. Sometimes he got so annoyed at his mistakes being trundled out time and time again, as though Buffy and Willow hadn't made their share of mess ups.
