[identity profile] tamingmods.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] tamingthemuse
Hiya Tamers! Xocoatl aka Asharia here with the New Year news.

First, I'm sure everyone has noticed the steep decline in participants lately. It's a bit sad since this community has been running for nearly 10 years. So, to try and get more people, either new or old, to come write with us, I will be creating some banners to pimp the community. I'll be posting them as soon as they're done. Share them far and wide, let's keep [livejournal.com profile] tamingthemuse going!

Second, I know we're behind on tracking and awards. Both Zippit and I will be working on that to get everything caught up. 2016 was a bit of a horrible year, 2017 will hopefully be better.

Three, we are going to have a new bit of challenge. This echoes back to the old monthly prompts we used to have, but these will be a bit different. I will be posting the rules and FAQs a little later. Participation in these new prompts is voluntary.

Fourth, for the next week I'm opening up the prompt submission box (submit to Tamingmods or Xocoatldreams with a subject of "Taming the Muse Prompts"). Flood it people, give me all the prompts. We're running a bit low in the generator and I'd like to fill it back up with new ideas for the new year.

Fifth, with the LJ servers moving and all the issues that might happen, I have opened up a new DreamWidth community for Taming The Muse, which can be found here. Depending on how things progress here on LJ, we might just crosspost (import) each week to keep things up to date, or we might have to totally migrate over to DW to keep the comm going. We'll have to wait and see.

Sixth, and last, I was considering creating a Collection on AO3 for the comm. Yay or nay? You guys weigh in.

And, done for now. The rules for the new challenges will be going up shortly (I still have to finish typing them up).

Have a wonderful 2017 my fellow muse-wranglers!

I'll definitely post a banner once they're made. I'm very grateful for TtM - it was having the prompts in my first couple of years of writing back in 2006-08 that kept my nose to the grindstone every week.

I know I couldn't keep that kind of output out now, but I'll definitely look at the monthly prompt and see if it sparks anything for me, RL permitting of course! *g*

I'm gonna be totally honest and say that I stopped writing when things started really getting behind in the tracking and awards. I worked hard every week, even while battling cancer, to ensure I met every deadline, It was disheartening and demoralising to feel like it was all for nothing. It's encouraging to see an acknowledgement of this and perhaps it will motivate myself and others to contribute to the community again. This was a great community, but it's a two way street. Both parties need to be meeting the deadlines.

As far as AO3, I think that's a great idea. I also like the idea of some new challenges.

Xocoatl - keep up the good work. I admire your dedication to this community and its authors.
