Hiya Tamers! Xocoatl aka Asharia here with the New Year news.

First, I'm sure everyone has noticed the steep decline in participants lately. It's a bit sad since this community has been running for nearly 10 years. So, to try and get more people, either new or old, to come write with us, I will be creating some banners to pimp the community. I'll be posting them as soon as they're done. Share them far and wide, let's keep [community profile] tamingthemuse going!

Second, I know we're behind on tracking and awards. Both Zippit and I will be working on that to get everything caught up. 2016 was a bit of a horrible year, 2017 will hopefully be better.

Three, we are going to have a new bit of challenge. This echoes back to the old monthly prompts we used to have, but these will be a bit different. I will be posting the rules and FAQs a little later. Participation in these new prompts is voluntary.

Fourth, for the next week I'm opening up the prompt submission box (submit to Tamingmods or Xocoatldreams with a subject of "Taming the Muse Prompts"). Flood it people, give me all the prompts. We're running a bit low in the generator and I'd like to fill it back up with new ideas for the new year.

Fifth, with the LJ servers moving and all the issues that might happen, I have opened up a new DreamWidth community for Taming The Muse, which can be found here. Depending on how things progress here on LJ, we might just crosspost (import) each week to keep things up to date, or we might have to totally migrate over to DW to keep the comm going. We'll have to wait and see.

Sixth, and last, I was considering creating a Collection on AO3 for the comm. Yay or nay? You guys weigh in.

And, done for now. The rules for the new challenges will be going up shortly (I still have to finish typing them up).

Have a wonderful 2017 my fellow muse-wranglers!

I am the first to say that tracking is very hard in this community. Do y'all realize we have 197 writers? Anyway, I know that the mods are having trouble, so I've done some tracking on prompts 242 (Chiaroscuro) through 252 (Samuri). Authors... tell me if I've made a mistake. Mods, tell me if you need me to go back more and help get the tracking caught up. By the way, I'm having to go back through the community, so I'm reporting the numbers backwards (newest to oldest)

Agent_south -- only 242
Akasakasan -- all prompts done
Alakewood -- all prompts done
Aleanorblack -- prompts 246, 245, 244 only (award earned)
Angelswilliam -- 248
Bigsciencybrain -- 246,245 ... 243,242
Darklingdawns -- all done
Deomidaemon -- 247,246,245,244 (award earned)
Dragonyphoenix -- 242
Forsaken2003 -- 252,251,250,249 ... 247 ... 245,244,243 (award earned)
Guardian_erin -- all done
Jadedissola -- 252,251,250
Lit_gal -- all done
Martienne17 -- 243,242
Mistressminx_13 -- 248 ... 246 and 245 were late ... 244 .. 242
Schilling_klaus -- everything is done up through (and including) 250, so there's an award coming, but I didn't go back far enough to know which award.
Semisweetsoul -- 252,251
Skargasm -- all done
Sunnyd_lite -- 243
Tekia -- all done
Theladymerlin -- all done
Tres_mechante -- 244,243,242 (an award was earned, but I haven't gone back far enough to know which one)
Underhandlilies -- 252,251
Windandstars -- all done
Zippitgood -- all done

Greetings everyone! Slightly early this time around but a busy day tomorrow so I thought, it'd be better that I post early than I forget all about it. *g*

So the great prompt generator has once more spoken and given us the following prompt

Suffocate

Wishing you all a good week!

Hello again! Here I am with the monthly prompt for September. It's still the 1st in most countries of the world so I'm not even late this time around. *g*

This time your monthly prompt task is to:

Write a 1000+ word story. This should be a complete story, rather than a part of a larger piece, however, it can be original or fan fiction. This time around I want you to write the story from the point of view of an inanimate object. Otherwise you have free reign.

Entries will need to be received by midnight 30th September at GMT -12. We'll issue a closed post as we do with the weekly prompts.

When you post your entry, please tag it for the challenge.

You do not have to be a regularly contributing member of the community to participate. This challenge is optional and open to everyone.

You are allowed to use the monthly challenge in conjunction with any of the weekly prompts this month as long as you follow all the requirements for both. So, for this month, you would:
- Include the weekly prompt in your story
- It would be a stand-alone, a story of 1000 words or more from the POV of an inanimate object
- It would be posted by the earlier of the two deadlines (midnight Saturday, or midnight on the 30th).
