It actually wasn't a bad existence. Admittedly, when the council plane first went down with only he and the pup surviving, things had initially looked kinda bleak. He'd set the boy to work to stop him thinking about the dead – the captain and the stewardess had been strangers so it was slightly easier to bear but he hadn't wanted the boy to stress. A bit of speedy exploring found a couple of caves – one that would provide shelter during the daytime, the other that he kept hidden from the boy.
