tamingthemuse prompt this week was Narcissus. I knew the myth but I did some reading anyway to see what interested the muse. The essence of the myth is that a young man is cursed to fall in love with his own reflection. A Greek philosopher Pausanias argued that it was silly for someone to fall in love with their reflection and that Narcissus must have had a twin that he fell in love with and pinned away for when they died. Well thinking about twins made me think about Spilliam and the winged challenge at

darker_spilliam. And well… this is what happened.

William is a guardian angel. He is assigned his most unusual case ever, a vampire with a soul. William’s first charge had been a young Victorian male who he failed to protect and he took on the form of the young man in memory. Now he has a chance to make good.

Previously:"Dawn...gladiators share their servants at the baths. Any servant there is fair game unless he or she is claimed," Angel explained.

"What? But...I thought it was so you could take a bath."

"It is. But it's also to let the gladiators, male or female, enjoy sexual attentions."

Dawn was fiery red. "I...didn't know. I just thought I'd give you a haircut and wash your feet."

Unexpectedly, Angel pulled her close, rubbing her back soothingly, though his face was as stony as usual. "Don't worry, I won't let you get molested."

Dawn was about to say something grateful, since the big ox was actually being nice, when Angel went and did something scary.

He bit her!

"Ouch!" She shoved him away from where he'd marked the juncture of her neck and shoulder with a messy bite.

"There!" he said, looking satisfied. He licked her blood from his lips.

"What did you do that for?"

"I marked you. Now anyone who touches you knows they have to fight me." Angel looked smug. "You can show your gratitude with a nice long back rub...and no chattering."

Dawn's jaw dropped. "Angel, this hurts!"

"Don't be a baby, it's just--"

Angered over his take-control attitude, Dawn impulsively leaped on Angel, making the massive gladiator fall on his back in surprise. He gripped her upper arms.

"Wha--?"

Dawn bit him, on the opposite side to her own throbbing, raw bite. She bit him hard enough so she tasted blood.

Smiling, she pulled back. "It does too hurt!"

But Angel didn't look casual; he looked afraid.

"Uh...Angel?"

"Dawn, what have you done?!"

"I just..." She climbed to her feet, still feeling the heavy print of his erection through her dress. He seemed to always have one, which she tried not to think about.

"You just exchanged a mating bite with me!"

"Mating bite?" Dawn scoffed. "I've never heard of it."

Angel shoved his long hair back, pacing his cage. "Why of all the girls in the slave pens do I have to get stuck with you?"
