Hello everyone! *waves*

It's time for our March monthly challenge!

Choose an invention and then write a 1000+ word story including the invention in your story. This should be a complete story, rather than a part of a larger piece, however, it can be original or fan fiction.

Entries will need to be received by midnight 31st March at GMT -12. We'll issue a closed post as we do with the weekly prompts.

When you post your entry, please tag it for the challenge.

You do not have to be a regularly contributing member of the community to participate. This challenge is optional and open to everyone.

You are allowed to use the monthly challenge in conjunction with any of the weekly prompts this month as long as you follow all the requirements for both. So, for this month, you would:
- Include the weekly prompt in your story
- It would be a stand-alone, a story of 1000 words or more including an invention
- It would be posted by the earlier of the two deadlines (midnight Saturday, or midnight on the 31st).

Good luck everyone!

I think I'm overdue for a potentially stupid question, so...

When we say invention, are we talking like a brand, spankin' new invention, or can we merely mention a past invention (i.e.: automobile, telephone/cellular phone, elevator, etc.)? And can it just be a passing word or should the invention be a common thread throughout the story?

Thanks!

There is no such thing as a stupid question, just irresponsible reporting of the answer. =)

Ummm...I think invention is left up to you. I mean, if you've got a caveman Winchester story somewhere in the back of your mind where they invent the first car or something then I'm certainly not going to begrudge you the invention of the wheel or anything.

I think how much of it is in the story is probably okay to be left to your discretion, but make sure it at least figures in the story in some way as an object or plot device, as a general rule.
