A/N: This is part one of what will hopefully be a two-part story. If you are unfamiliar with Highlander and/or Animorphs, don’t worry, as enough will be explained to cover the basics (if not in this part, then in the next). However, if you haven’t seen the Highlander episodes mentioned above, and/or you don’t know what Methos was doing back in the Bronze Age, you might be a teeny bit lost. It’s not all that important, though.

This is my longest story to date (and it’s only part one) with a word count of 3,720! Yaaaay!

Note 2: The prompt 'riptide' set me off into a world of watery metaphor. There is no point in swimming against a riptide. The way to escape is to swim at 45 degrees to the direction of the current, using it, instead of fighting it.

"Well...you said you were lonely?" Angel asked awkwardly.

Xander smiled. He caught himself and tucked the smile away inside. "Um, those are lines I say. You know, I'm-so-lonely-I-touch-myself, blah-blah-blah."

"Oh. No. I mean...not that I'm not lonely. Well, I'm not! Lonely, I mean. I'm very...uh, I get by. I touch myself, sure, but not because I'm lonely."

"Wow, you're really a dweeb!" Xander said, rolling his eyes. He hid another smile.

Without thinking about it, he'd been stroking himself, keeping the fire stoked for his next client. He saw Angel's dark eyes fall to where he was handling himself.

Being up on his little black metal table, naked, touching himself in front of Angel was having a strange effect on him.
